Resources

This winter and spring we are focusing on what we believe, essepcially about the cross.

Our journey will begin in our Sunday Services through teaching, prayer and worship.

But Sunday service is just the beginning.  There are also lots of resources available to help us further learn and apply these important beliefs.

An important part of our spiritual growth is being part of a community group where we get to know each other, can help and pray for each other and apply the truths in the Bible to our daily lives.

For those looking to dive deeper, these resources could be a big help. See these resources below.

Whole Series:

  • Discovery Bible Study Method.

  • Eternity is Now in Session – John Ortberg (Book/ discussion guide study)

    • In Eternity Is Now in Session, bestselling author John Ortberg dispels the myth that eternal life is something way out in outer space that we can only hope to experience after we die—and that being saved is merely about meeting the minimal entrance requirements for getting into heaven. Instead, John unpacks the reality that the moment we trust Christ, we are initiated into “eternal living” with God as a here and now reality, one that will continue beyond our life on this earth.

    • Along with the book, there is 5 sessions worth of group questions and discussion

  • How Should we Define Salvation – N.T. Wright  (video series

    • Thinking Through Salvation puts the admittedly giant concept of salvation within its larger biblical framework. While salvation includes questions about what happens after death, “going to heaven” is not the primary focus of the story told throughout the Bible. In this video, Prof. N.T. Wright examines three common definitions of salvation to see how well they fit the biblical picture and how the portrait of Jesus in the Gospels fits into each of these, ultimately refocusing our attention on the Kingdom of God.

    • There are 9 videos, all on YouTube. Each video is around 7min long. Each video would be a great conversation started for a group discussion. The videos could be watched during or before groups. It would also pair well with anyone wanting to read - The Day The Revolution Began

    • Using the video and ideas from the Sunday sermon, go through the following questions.

  • Bible Project (video series)

    • The Bible Project has a wonderful collection of short videos (5 – 7min) explaining the themes of heaven, cross, atonement, salvation, etc… Most of these also have a question guide that can be used. I (Jon) will put together a list of the videos that would best correspond with each Sunday sermon.

    • Email Jon for the list of videos.

    • Using the video and ideas from the Sunday sermon, go through the following questions.

  • Sinners in The Hands of a Loving God (book study)

    • In Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God, Zahnd asks important questions like: Is seeing God primarily as wrathful towards sinners true or biblical? Is fearing God a normal expected behavior? And where might the natural implications of this theological framework lead us?
Thoughtfully wrestling with subjects like Old Testament genocide, the crucifixion of Jesus, eternal punishment in hell, and the final judgment in Revelation, Zanhd maintains that the summit of divine revelation for sinners is not God is wrath, but God is love.

    • Group members would read a chapter before each group meeting to then discus together as well as these questions.
